The Begining

And it begins! The begining stages of a cross country bicycle journey. I've been wanting to do this for 9 years. That's 9 years of tossing around the idea, thinking about whether I could do something of this caliber, wanting to have that type of personal challenge, and mostly fearing the logistics.

I'm not exactly sure what has changed, well that's not true at all. What's changed is me. I've grown up quite a bit, and I can now accept that idea of failing at something which means I'm willing to take the risk. Because when it is ok to succeed or fail all of a sudden the end result doesn't matter anymore and it's completely about the journey. Ok enough with the Lance Armstrong stuff, but serisouly it's true.

So here is the plan. Here is my bike of choice. I've chosen panniers to carry my gear as opposed to towing a trailer. Mostly it's personal preference. I like the feel of carrying the load as I'll get used to it more easily, as the trailer to me feels a bit more like a shifting load. But all in all it's all psychological. And then their is cost. I'll save quite a bit of money by going with panniers. And for a limited budget that is a huge factor.

I'm going to be making hte trip with my friend Matt. I lived with him last year in Jackson. He's into riding as well, and we did the ride to yellowstone together. He's doing his ride for the Lance Armstrong Foundation and that inspired me to also ride for a cause. I chose Mental Health. It's something that at a younger age I decided I would dedicate my life to. So I’m in contact with Mental Health America hoping to get them onboard as I’d love to do some advocacy work with them.

But that's all for now. I've got to get some rest for helping local bike customers tomorrow.
